JOB PURPOSE

The AGM-BD in Power Trading will be responsible for leading and executing the strategic growth agenda of the power trading vertical within the energy sector. This role involves identifying and capitalizing on business opportunities across bilateral and exchange-based power markets. The incumbent will drive client acquisition, forge key partnerships, and influence regulatory engagement to enhance trading volumes and profitability.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Responsibilities
Customer Acquisition and Business Development
•    Identify and engage potential clients, retail sector customers using data banks, direct calling, and site visits to understand power requirements.
•    Expand customer base by targeting new clients for power trading on exchange platforms.
•    Lead tender participation, over-the-counter trading, and sales of Energy Saving Certificates (ESCERTs), Renewable Energy Certificate (RECs), and other market-linked instruments.
•    Evaluate and capture new market opportunities to diversify revenue streams and enhance trading volumes.
•    Manage tender participation, including pre-rate decisions, scheduling, and determining mega-watt capacity for RTC (Real-Time Trading).
•    Forecast market movements and customer needs to support proactive business decisions.
•    Provide market insights and rate guidance to clients for enhanced commercial outcomes.
Account Management
•    Perform ongoing account management post-acquisition for short-term power trading and exchange transactions.
•    Manage customer participation in captive power plant models, including equity investment arrangements and related compliance.
Client Enablement and Exchange Registration
•    Facilitate client registration on Indian Energy Exchange (IEX)/ Power Exchange India Limited (PXIL)/ Indian Gas Exchange (IGX), including documentation, onboarding, and regulatory compliance.
•    Coordinate applications for NOCs, utility registrations, and membership renewals with power exchanges.
•    Responsible for obtaining timely approvals from State Load Despatch Centres (SLDC)/ Regional Load Despatch Centres (RLDC) for open access and related permissions.
Power Trading and Portfolio Management
•    Manage buy/sell transactions across Day Ahead Market (DAM), Term Ahead Market (TAM), Real Time Market (RTM), Green Term Ahead Market (G-TAM), and REC portfolios to maximize returns.
•    Handle sale of internal and external power through power exchanges and bilateral agreements.
•    Oversee group captive transactions, utility banking/swapping, and other strategic trading initiatives.
Stakeholder Coordination and Commercial Execution
•    Collaborate with power exchanges, SLDCs/RLDCs, and internal teams for bidding and trade execution.
•    Resolve regulatory, operational, or trading issues in coordination with all relevant stakeholders.
AOP & Budget Management 
•    Provide inputs for the annual operating budget, driving alignment with financial goals. 
•    Monitor performance against AOP, conduct variance analysis, and provide detailed reasoning for deviations. 
Team Development and Management
•    Conduct periodic evaluations, identify training needs, facilitate skill development programs, and enhance team competencies.
•    Address team concerns, provide guidance, and create opportunities for professional growth.
•    Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • MBA
  • Certification in Power Trading, Energy Markets, or Regulatory Compliance preferrable

 

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • 12–15 years of experience in Power Trading, Business Development, or Energy markets
